Hd nematodes are microscopic threadworms of the species Heterorhabditis downesi (Hd).

They are insect pathogens (causing disease in certain insect species). They specialise in selected pests and are used specifically as beneficial organisms in biological plant protection.

ADVANTAGES OF Hd-NEMATODES

A particular advantage of Hd nematodes is their high resistance to cold. They can be used at significantly lower soil temperatures than other nematode species. They can be used at soil temperatures as low as 8 °C. This significantly extends the possible control period for certain pests.

WHICH PESTS CAN Hd-NEMATODES BE USED AGAINST?

Hd nematodes are particularly suitable for controlling the following soil-dwelling pests:

Weevil larvae (Otiorhynchus spp.)
Pine weevil (Hylobius abietis)
Grubs of the welsh chafer (Hoplia philanthus)
Grubs of the cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha)

Hd-nematodes are harmless to humans, pets, plants and other beneficial organisms and represent an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides.
