Nematodes are tiny threadworms measuring approximately 0.5 mm in length. Alongside insects, they are generally considered to be among the most species-rich multicellular organisms on Earth. They are at home in every conceivable habitat. Some nematode species are entomopathogenic, which means that they specifically attack and combat certain insects. These nematodes can be used to effectively combat fungus gnats, weevils, grubs and many other pests. Nematodes have no effect on beneficial organisms, animals or humans.

We have been researching and producing useful nematodes for biological plant protection for over 25 years and sell them from the north of Germany all over the world. Every production run is tested for quality and effectiveness. We only sell products that are proven to be effective.
Frequently asked questions
No, the nematodes are completely harmless to humans and animals. They act specifically against the harmful insects. They die at temperatures above 32° C and are therefore unable to survive in the bodies of humans and mammals.
If stored refrigerated between 2° C and 8° C, the unopened pack will keep for 6 weeks. The sooner the nematodes are applied, the better the effect.
Nematodes are dissolved in water and applied to the infested area using a watering can, sprayer, drip irrigation or special application equipment. It is important to ensure even distribution and sufficient moisture in the soil so that the nematodes can become active and move around. If possible, application should take place in the evening or in cloudy weather to avoid UV damage.
The most important species in plant protection are:
- Steinernema feltiae : Fungus gnats, Thrips,Leaf miner, oak processionary moth
- Steinernema carpocapsae : Black vine weevil (adult), Leatherjacket larvae, Cutworms, Mole cricketts
- Heterorhabditis bacteriophora : Grubs, Black vine weevil (larvae), Western corn rootworm
- Heterorhabditis downesi : Black vine weevil larvae and grubs at colder temperatures
- Phasmarhabditis californica : Slugs
Soil temperature: Depending on the species 8–28 °C
Application time: Depending on the pest and its life cycle
Moisture: Soil should be mois pre and post application
Light: Avoid direct sunlight (UV radiation damages nematodes)
No pesticide residues: Some chemical agents can damage nematodes, so make sure they are well tolerated
Correct dosage: Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
The effectiveness lasts 4-6 weeks depending on the pest and environmental conditions. Repeat applications may be advisable if there is heavy pest pressure or if the pests take longer to develop
Yes, all nematode species authorised in Europe are suitable for organic farming and are included on the FiBL lists of authorised inputs. They are not genetically modified and are considered beneficial organisms.
Nematodes must be stored in a cool (2-8 °C) and dark place. They must not be frozen. The shelf life is 4-6 weeks, depending on the product and species. They should be used as soon as possible after opening.
No, the nematode species used are completely harmless to humans, pets, wild animals and plants. They only attack certain insect larvae or slugs and leave no residue.
