Nematoden gegen Trauermücken

Nematodes against fungus gnats

The fungus gnat is a small black gnat measuring approx. 3 mm and is a common pest in houseplant and herb pots. The nematode species Steinernema feltiae specialises in fungus gnat larvae, among other things, and can control them effectively and completely biologically. The larvae of the fungus gnat can be controlled all year round as long as the soil temperature is at least 8°C.

Our product against fungus gnats: nemaplus®

nemaplus® contains nematodes of the species Steinernema feltiae for the effective and biological control of fungus gnat larvae in houseplants and herbs.

How do nematodes work against fungus gnats?

Nematodes are tiny, approx. 0.5 mm long threadworms. They are supplied in a clay mineral powder, which is mixed with water and poured into the soil of the affected plants. In the soil, the nematodes actively search for the larvae of the fungus gnats and penetrate them. The larvae die and the nematodes multiply in them. The new nematodes then go in search of new larvae, creating a lasting effect. The nematodes are completely harmless to humans and pets.

What do I need to be aware of when using nematodes?

The use of nematodes is very simple. They are supplied in a clay mineral powder and mixed with water according to the detailed instructions on the inside of the packet. The nematode solution is then simply poured into the soil of the affected plants. The soil should now be kept moist for the next 14 days, but not dripping wet. For optimum control results, we recommend repeating the treatment after 14 days.

Where do fungus gnats come from?

Sooner or later almost everyone is affected: small black flies circle around beautiful houseplants. Fungus gnats prefer moist and warm conditions, which is why they are often found in houseplants or greenhouses. They can get into the home through open doors and windows, but usually fungus gnats are brought in via purchased plants or the plant soil. The eggs and larvae are already dormant in the soil, from which the adult gnats hatch after approx. 28 days.
