Biological trap for effective control of adult black vine weevils in the garden.

Content

Contains two wooden traps filled with nematode gel of the species Steinernema carpocapsae. Those traps are sufficient for 20m2 or 10 running meters of hedge.

Application

Remove the foil and simply place the trap board filled with nematode gel under the infested plants with the openings of the grooves facing downwards. Depending on the infestation, one trapping board is sufficient for up to 10m2 or 5 running meters of hedges. The nematodes are active for 6 weeks after laying out the trapping board. In case of heavy infestation, replace the trapping board after 6 weeks.

Damage caused by black vine weevil and its larvae

The black vine weevil is one of the most important pests in gardens and roof gardens. Its larvae feed especially on the roots of plants, which can cause wilting and eventual death. The adult beetles feed primarily on the leaf edges of the affected plants, resulting in the typical and unsightly "bay feeding".

Control adult black vine weevils with nematodes.

nematop® weevil Stop is a trap for the control of adult black vine weevils. It consists of a wooden board with grooves, in the grooves is a gel with nematodes. The beetles are nocturnal and crawl into the grooves when they are looking for a protected place for the day. During their stay, the nematodes penetrate the beetles, where they secrete a bacterium that kills the beetles. After about two weeks, the number of black vine weevils is reduced by 80-100%.

How do nematodes work?

Nematodes are about 0.5 mm long, of which there are over 20,000 different species worldwide. The species Steinernema carpocapsae specializes in controlling adult black vine weevils and is particularly effective. As soon as the beetle comes into contact with the gel, the nematodes penetrate it and secrete a bacterium with which they live in symbiosis. The bacterium kills the beetle and the nematodes multiply inside it until it is consumed. The nematodes then move on to infest the next pest. This process repeats until all black vine weevils are controlled.
